El Proyecto de mi Inmigrante
El Proyecto de mi Inmigrante was a project dedicated to finding an immigrant in our family and writing a few paragraphs about them in Spanish. I wrote about my great great grandfather who immigrated to the US from Southern Ukraine (Part of Russia at that time) in the 1800s when he was 16 years of age. I thank my mom's dad for providing all of this information.

Calivera
Day of the Dead (Dia de los muertos) is a holiday celebrated in Mexican culture. It was originally created by the Spanish, fusing Christianity with Aztec traditions, in order to gain the Natives' approval of Spain taking over their land and people. The activities that celebrants of this holiday take part in are centered around altars (ofrendas) for deceased loved ones whose spirits are said to come back on Day of the Dead. A surprising take on death, Day of the Dead is a time of positivity, unlike the average funeral, which is usually approached with sorrow.
The caliveras originated with a Mexican artist who was making stylized political cartoons in a newspaper. These illustrations featured various figures as skeletons.
