LINK is a three week internship that Juniors go on to gain experience in a work environment and aid in discovering what they may want to do in the future. The name “LINK” stands for Leading Internships for New Knowledge. Students were to contact businesses and get an internship with one. The internship had to take up at least 90 hours of a student’s time in those three weeks, during which we came up with and started a project that demonstrated what we learned or were doing during that time.
For my internship, I went to Green Analytical Labs (GAL) to gain experience in and learn about a lab setting. Throughout the whole of my internship, I majorly did smaller tasks that gave more time to the analysts that would usually spend their time doing those jobs. By doing these tasks, I proved quite helpful to those who were given more time to do the more central part of their job, possibly being able to leave work earlier than usual. I found that I enjoyed doing these tasks because I was able to be by myself and let my mind wander. They were simple and repetitive enough that I didn’t need to ask too many questions once I learned what to do and how to do it.
GAL specializes in water and soil testing. They usually take jobs to test for potentially harmful materials in these samples, like heavy metals, poisonous substances, and bacteria.
For my project, I got a tour of and took notes on where a sample would begin to where it would end in the lab process.
